Swami Dayanand, born on February 12, 1824, in Tankara, Gujarat, believed in returning to the vedas as the ultimate source of knowledge and truth, considering them to be the divine words of God. When India was divided among various schools of philosophy and theology, Swami Dayanand took a different path. Inspired by his ideologies, a group of socially-oriented individuals formed the Dayanand Anglo Vedic (D.A.V) college trust and management society in 1855 as a tribute to his great ideals after his demise in 1883. This marked the beginning of a remarkable movement known as the D.A.V movement.
