Birla High School (Senior Section) Overview
Welcome to Birla High School (Senior Section), an esteemed educational institution located in Moira Street, Kolkata, West Bengal. In the pre-independence era, elite schools in Kolkata primarily offered education based on Western values, often overlooking India's rich cultural heritage. Faced with a moral dilemma, parents seeking an education rooted in traditional Indian values found a solution through the visionary thinking of our founder, the late Sri L. N. Birla. Concerned about the state of contemporary Indian education and the rising materialism impacting Indian youth under colonial rule, Sri L. N. Birla translated his vision into reality by establishing Hindi High School in 1940. This unique educational institution aimed to impart learning that seamlessly blended traditional and modern elements, as well as the aesthetic with the scientific. The school's mission found symbolic representation in its motto, "Tamaso Ma Jyotirgamay" - from darkness unto light. In 1997, Hindi High School was rebranded as "Birla High School."
