The Lillian School Overview
The Lillian School, named after its founder Lillian Ruth Doerksen, is a renowned educational institution affiliated with the Maharashtra Fellowship for Deaf (MFD). Lillian, also known as Prakash Moushi - The Auntie of Light, dedicated over 50 years of her life as a missionary educator in India. She primarily focused on nurturing and educating a family of 34 girls at the Pandita Ramabai Mukti Mission in Kedgaon. Through her work, Lillian became aware of the significant number of deaf individuals in Maharashtra, with approximately 900,000 in the state alone. This realization saddened her deeply, especially when some of her daughters from the Mukti Mission gave birth to deaf children. Motivated by this, Lillian established the Maharashtra Fellowship for Deaf in 1987. Presently, MFD is managed by Mr. Arvind Meshramkar and Mrs. Tara Meshramkar, overseeing four premises dedicated to providing shelter, education, and important life skills to hundreds of deaf boys and girls.
