Calcutta Girls High School Overview
Calcutta Girls High School, established in 1856, was founded with the support of the Evangelical denominations of the city and under the patronage of Lord Canning, the Governor General of India at that time. Originally managed by Bishop J.M. Thoburn of the Methodist Episcopal Church, the school is currently owned and operated by the Methodist Church in India. It falls under the supervision of the Calcutta Christian School Society, registered under Act XXI of 1860, with a local Managing Committee led by the Bishop of the Bengal Regional Conference as Chairman. The primary goal of Calcutta Girls High School is to provide high-quality education at an affordable rate. While the medium of instruction is English, students are also required to have proficiency in either Hindi or Bengali. The school is recognized by the Deputy Director of Secondary Education (Anglo Indian Schools) West Bengal and is affiliated with the CISCE (Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations, New Delhi).
