The Cathedral & John Connon School Overview
The Cathedral & John Connon School, located within the historic walled city of Bombay, has a rich and storied history dating back to 1860. Originally conceived as a Grammar School by Bishop Harding and the Cathedral Chaplain, it was just the beginning of a series of educational institutions that would eventually be merged to create the Cathedral School we know today. In 1875, a Choir School was established with the primary purpose of providing choristers for St. Thomas Cathedral. Around the same time, in 1866, the Bombay Scottish Education Society was founded. This society later erected a magnificent building on the Esplanade, naming it after the esteemed philanthropist Mr. John Connon, who was also the Chief Registrar of Bombay. In 1902, the Bombay Scottish Education Society took over a small school operated by the Wesleyan Church in Colaba Causeway. This school became the kindergarten department of the John Connon School until its closure in 1920 due to inadequate accommodations. The Bombay Diocesan Society,
